Our Mission and Values
The mission of RC4 is to provide quality child care and education for children ages 6 weeks to five years in a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment. At RC4 we strive to build:
Community- We empower each other through a strong commitment to community, recognizing our responsibility to one another.
Diversity- We celebrate bringing together a diverse group of people with rich differences in ethnic, racial, and socio-cultural backgrounds, age, and gender.
Lifelong Learning- Our goal is to nurture a love for learning and believe that everyone benefits when they are able to grow- cognitively, emotionally, and physically.
Quality- Children deserve the best quality child care and education to support their total development.
Respect- We strive to appreciate that each person is unique, valuable, and worthy of respect.
During a child's enrollment, there are goals that teachers and parents set together to meet individual needs. Additionally, there are universal goals that all children will meet before leaving the center. Those goals include social/emotional, physical and cognitive skills appropriate to the child's developmental stage which teachers have focused on through observations and lesson planning. Children will have a strong basis for future school success based upon healthy relationships with child care staff. Families will have learned the importance of social/emotional development and will have come away with ways to facilitate that through their participation in the classroom and at conferences with teachers. Through a growing sense of community within the child care center, families will leave with an increased support network of other families, as well as knowledge about ways in which children learn, what can be expected at various developmental stages of growth, and how to navigate the Chicago Public School system for the benefit of their child.
Our Story
Ravenswood Community Child Care Center is a non-profit child care center that works to provide quality care to children in our community. RC4 opened its doors in September 2002 in order to provide childcare to children of teen parents and additional families in the community. By doing so, many teens have graduated from high school, secured jobs and pursued post-secondary education.
